Location Services, a native feature on iPhones since iOS 6, is used to pinpoint your approximate location using a combination of GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and cell tower information. Apple uses this on their smartphones for many useful reasons: so that you can tag locations in Instagram, get better directions in Maps, and check for matches based on your location in Tinder.When it comes the photos you take using your iPhone, Location Services embeds metadataâ€”called EXIF dataâ€”to each picture you take, which helps organize them by location or date in your Photos app. Unfortunately, anyone with access to your pics can learn your exact location, even if it's just a selfie you sent them through SMS or iMessage.

How to Track Locations from iPhone PhotosSince I'm well aware of what Location Services does, I decided to text a friend who isn't very tech-savvy and asked her to send me a picture of herself, taken at that exact moment. Once I received it, I saved it to my Camera Roll, then headed over to the Photos app. From there, I tapped on the "Photos" tab at the bottom, which organizes pictures based on when and where they were taken.Below you can see the picture she sent me, at the end of another collection of photos. At the top right, you can see the time in which these photos were taken, and to the left of that, you can see their locations. I tapped on the location and quickly found her picture and exactly where she had taken itâ€”on Beach Boulevard in Buena Park, CA. So I texted her back asking if this was indeed where she had taken the photo. Judging from her replies, it seemed that I was correct about her current location. While the feature is wonderful in other aspects, it's still a bit disconcerting to know that your smartphone can be your own worst enemy in this way. Since I'm her friend, it's not a huge deal that I knew her whereabouts, but what happens when the picture falls into the wrong hands?John McAfee, founder of McAfee, Inc., learned about it the hard way. A few years ago he was accused of murder and went on the lam. After an iPhone photo of him at his hideout surfaced via VICE, its metadata was used to figure out his exact location.Anyone with your photo can easily find out where you live, where you work, or where you go to schoolâ€”that's some scary shit. Luckily, you can stop this from happening by disabling Location Services for the Camera app. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

How to Disable Location Services for Your iPhone's CameraFrom your iPhone's Settings, go to General -> Restrictions -> Location Services, Then, scroll down to get to the Camera app. If Location Services are enabled, it will say "While Using" next to it. To disable it, tap on Camera and check "Never." Now anytime you take a photo using the stock Camera app, it will still appear in your Camera Roll but won't show any location data. When you send it to someone, they won't be able to track you down. Selecting individual hours will provide more information including wait time and a description of the what the wait time translate to (for example, if an hour wait is normal or busy). When selecting the bar associated with the current time, this text will switch to a Live look, providing a real-time estimate of current traffic. So, like any other softModder, I tend to download a bunch of apps and tweaks that help speed up my device's overall performance. In doing so, I often come across the "Complete action using" popup, which is oddly enough, one of the most inefficient features ever. You'll see this popup whenever you click on something that can be opened with more than one option. If you click on a link in Google search for an Android app, you'll be asked to open it with Internet or Google Play, maybe even Chrome or another browser you have installed. If you're opening an APK file, you'll be asked for Package Installer or Verify and Install.When this "Complete action using" menu appears, you not only have to select an option, but then hit Just Once as well, making it a double-tap task. Sure, you could select Always and not have to deal with it again, but those type of set-in-stone features aren't something that I'm too keen on, and changing those settings are a pain. There seems to be little missing for the average user, but for the more seasoned photographers, some of the standard settings may seem a bit too dumbed down.To help ease that pain, Jishnu Sur has released his own modified camera app that promises to enhance the overall user experience of your M8's camera. Most of the changes added to Jishnu's Camera Mod are under the hood, but he did also add some extra features, which we'll get to later.This mod is only for rooted M8s with a custom recovery, so without further delay, let's get started.
Update: July 15, 2014For undisclosed reasons, Jishnu Sur has been banned from XDA, so this mod has been removed. That means that if you're using a ROM that is currently unsupported, it's most likely going to stay that way.However, I have updated the .zip files below to cover both 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 ROMs, so any errors should be solved. If you are unsure whether you are using a odexed or deodexed ROM, check the description of the ROM you are using. But, if you are using a 100% stock rooted M8, then you'll want the odexed version.

If you're an Android user, there's an app called Image Privacy that strips the EXIF data from your photos before you share them in a message or post them to social media sites. It does so by adding a simple, unobtrusive option to your phone's Share menu. When you install it, you'll still have all your normal sharing options, but there will be an added option to Strip metadata before sharing. With the V30, LG has really delivered an amazing smartphone that hits all the major features consumers want. Amazing camera, beautiful edge-to-edge display, great battery life, water resistance, and smooth performance â€” there isn't much not to like about the LG V30. Unfortunately, it does suffer from heavy bloatware thanks to the carriers. The good thing is, unlike in the past, you are not stuck with it.Whether you bought your V30 from Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, or Sprint, you'll find quite a bit of unnecessary apps preinstalled on your device. Combine that with the redundant apps that LG created for the LG UX skin, and you're stuck with a significant amount of bloatware that can't be uninstalled by traditional means. What You'll NeedLG V30 USB data cable Windows, Mac, or Linux computer
Step 1: Install ADB & FastbootIn order to remove the bloatware, we are going to use ADB commands, which requires a specific program on your computer. Don't worry if you're unfamiliar with ADB, we will walk you through the whole process. Step 2: Install the LG Drivers (Windows & Mac)Beyond that, you may need to install some LG-specific drivers on your computer for ADB to be able to interact with your V30. So if you're a Windows or Mac user, download these drivers, then extract the contents of the ZIP and run the EXE or PKG file to install the LG-specific drivers. After that, restart your computer to ensure that your operating system has loaded the new drivers.

Step 3: Install App InspectorNext, install App Inspector on your smartphone. This application will give you the exact package names of any bloatware apps, which you'll need to know when sending the ADB commands that remove them. It will also provide the icon (if applicable) of the app to help you correctly identify the bloatware you wish to remove.Install App Inspector for free from the Google Play Store

Step 4: Enable USB DebuggingOnce you've installed the Android SDK Tools linked out in Step 1, you'll be ready to send ADB and Fastboot commands. But to make sure you don't have any troubles in the future, there's one last step you should take.First, make sure you have "USB debugging" enabled on your V30. This setting can be found in the Developer options menu, which can be activated using these instructions. From there, simply connect your phone or tablet to your computer with a USB cable, then you should see the following prompt on your Android device: To finalize things, tick the box next to "Always allow," then press "OK" on the popup. When you're done there, you should have no trouble sending ADB or Fastboot commands in the future.Note: If you don't see the above message, follow Steps 5 and 6, then you should see it right after sending the command listed in Step 6.

Step 5: Open an ADB Command WindowNext, navigate to the ADB and Fastboot installation directory on your computer. For Windows users, this can usually be found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools. For Mac and Linux users, it depends on where you extracted your ADB folder when you installed the utility, so search your hard drive for the platform-tools folder if you've forgotten.From here, if you're using a Windows PC, hold down the shift button on your keyboard, then right-click any empty space and choose "Open command window here." For Mac and Linux users, simply open a Terminal window, then change directories to the platform-tools folder inside of your ADB installation directory using the command: If you decide to use Minimal ADB and Fastboot instead, locate the folder and select "cmd-here" to open up the command prompt in the proper directory.

Step 6: Start the ADB Shell ServiceNext, from the command prompt or Terminal window, type in the following command, then press enter on your keyboard:adb shellNote: Depending on your setup, you may need to add a period and a slash (./) to the beginning of any ADB commands. In this case, ./ adb shell would do the trick.

Step 7: Find the Package Names for Apps You Want to RemoveNow your device is almost ready to uninstall any application. On your V30 again, open up Application Inspector and select "App List," then select an app you wish to remove. Below its name is the name of the package, which begins with either "com" or "net" followed by a series of words separated by dots. Copy this information down.

Step 8: Disable the App Using ADBReturn to the ADB command window on your computer and enter the following command, making sure to replace XX with the exact bloatware package name you found in Application Inspector:pm uninstall -k --user 0 XXIf everything went off without a hitch, you'll see a message saying "Success," which indicates the bloatware app was successfully removed. From there, just repeat this process for any other packages/apps that you'd like to remove.

Step 9: Verify That the Bloatware Apps Were RemovedFrom now on, the app will still be listed under the "App" option in the Settings menu, but will state that it is not installed. The application will not show up anywhere else including your app drawer, and it will no longer run in the background taking up battery life. For all intents and purposes, the bloatware app has now been uninstalled! Be careful what you uninstall, since some apps are needed for basic functionality. Application Inspector will help you avoid some apps, but if you're unsure about a particular application, search for it online. However, if you do happen to get rid of the wrong app, you can factory reset your device to return all the preinstalled apps (including bloatware).With a few basic commands, you can clear up the extensive bloatware found on the LG V30. With their removal, your device will run a little smoother now that it isn't bogged down by unwanted apps. What apps did you remove from your LG V30?
