News: Always-Updated List of Phones That Will Get Android Oreo
| Updated February 11, 2019 with new phones. When will my phone get Android Oreo? That's a question still being asked by many, even this late in 2018. Most OEMs have answered this question in one way or another, either releasing a stable OTA or confirming their device won't be receiving the update. We consolidated all these responses, and here's where we stand. At the time of this writing, Android 9.0 Pie is out on a handful of devices. While it will probably be at least until mid-2019 when a good portion of phones run this version\, almost all major releases since 2017 should have the second-latest version of Android. And unlike previous years, this update will be important.Google introduced a policy that all new apps and updates must target the second-newest version of Android, with a deadline of one year into its release. Right now, the first deadline for Android Oreo has passed, which requires all new apps to target this version. On November 1, all updates to existing apps must target Oreo as well. What this means is that more apps will take advantage of Android Oreo's new changes, including improved notification channels, better security, and picture-in-picture mode.Don't Miss: Here's How Your Apps Will Get Better Now That They Have to Target Oreo
About This ListFor the purposes of this article, there are three stages: Unconfirmed, Confirmed and Beta. Unconfirmed will list any phone which currently doesn't have an Oreo update or was confirmed by the OEM that will not receive it. Confirmed is for phones which the OEM has stated they will release the update but the OTA isn't available as of yet. Beta is for the few devices that are running an Oreo beta version and not stable. For phones with confirmed Oreo updates or existing builds, their name will be bold and either the download link or confirmation page will be linked when available.
EssentialThe list of phones Essential made in 2017 is fairly short, as the PH-1 is the first device ever released from the young company. With only one phone to support, you would think Essential would have an easier time getting out timely updates, but it wasn't released until mid-March (though, it was an 8.1 update, so we'll cut them some slack).Essential Phone PH-1: Stable OTA available for 8.1
GoogleOne of the main perks of purchasing a Pixel or Nexus device is the timely Android OS updates. As with previous software updates, Google always releases the newest version of Android first on their own lineup, which includes Nexus and Pixel. For Nexus, this is the last official update from Google, as we've already seen they will not be receiving Android 9.0 Pie.Nexus 5X: Stable OTA available Nexus 6P: Stable OTA available Pixel: Stable OTA available Pixel XL: Stable OTA available Pixel 2: Android Oreo out of the box Pixel 2 XL: Android Oreo out of the box

OnePlusOver the past few years, OnePlus has taken some criticism for their Android OS update practices. Android Oreo is scheduled to be the final major OS update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T, and both of them have already received their initial Oreo update. The OnePlus 5 and 5T also have stable Oreo versions and are actually running stable Android 8.1 already.OnePlus 3: Stable OTA available OnePlus 3T: Stable OTA available OnePlus 5: Stable OTA available for 8.1 OnePlus 5T: Stable OTA available for 8.1
